The project specification was to de-silt/dredge the large Mill Pond for the National Trust at Bodnant Garden, North Wales. This was a complex project involving the use of items of our own heavy machinery such as 15 ton excavators, a 22 ton excavator and tracked dumpers. The project required the movement of thousands of tons of silt through the garden to purpose-built settlement lagoons. Ground protection mats were used to ensure minimal impact on the grassed areas surrounding the pool and lagoons. Transfer of the silt took place using a system that ensured the efficient use of personnel and equipment.
This project had to be carried out within close proximity to the general public, and with great sensitivity given the nature of the property and its importance. The project was completed successfully and within the allocated time frame.
Extensive preparation works took place in order to ready the pool for dredging to commence. This began with the felling and clearance of timber to create access for machinery. Preparatory works also included ground stabilization and excavation prior to installing swamp mats, therefore making it possible to mobilize all necessary machinery needed for the completion of the project – long reach excavator, tracked dumpers and necessary pumps.
This project once again required the construction of a temporary road and the laying of swamp mats to provide access for the necessary machinery to de-silt the pool. The Landmarc team were able to remove approximately 9000 tons of silt and made good any grassed areas, leaving the site in a tidy condition at the end of the project.
Landmarc have been able to carry out works on some of the country’s well known and well-loved historic houses over the years. The project to de-silt the moat at the Madresfield Estate, Worcestershire, involved the laying of a temporary roadway to protect the lawn and gardens in front of the main house to allow access for the machines.
We were then able to de-silt the moat successfully and complete the project within seven days to the customer’s satisfaction.
