Leachate Tank Installation at Hayedown Waste Transfer Station, Tavistock

We completed a civil engineering project at Hayedown Waste Transfer Station near Tavistock, Devon, for South Hams District Council, installing a new buried leachate tank and associated drainage infrastructure at the recycling facility. The project was designed to improve the management of water runoff from the existing glass recycling bay, providing a practical drainage solution within an operational waste transfer site.

The works involved deep excavation for a 36,400-litre leachate tank, including breaking through existing concrete slabs and carefully excavating in close proximity to an existing steel-framed building. Our team installed the tank at a depth of approximately five metres, incorporating a concrete base, specified backfill materials and reinstated concrete surfacing. The project also included new surface water drainage channels, pipework and underground ducting to connect the tank’s telemetry system to the existing recycling plant building.

Working to the engineering drawings and specifications prepared by John Grimes Partnership, the project required careful planning, coordination and attention to detail throughout the excavation, tank installation and drainage works. This project demonstrates our experience delivering civil engineering, underground tank installation, drainage infrastructure and groundworks for waste management and recycling facilities. From deep excavations and concrete reinstatement to the installation of specialist drainage systems, we deliver practical, specification-led solutions tailored to challenging site conditions. If you’re planning a leachate tank installation, waste transfer station upgrade or industrial drainage project in Devon or the wider South West, get in touch to discuss how we can help.
