Slapton Natural Pond Restoration

A "Pond Emergency"!

Back in February 2023, Landmarc was approached by a private client undergoing a “pond emergency”! They had an existing natural pond in their garden that was losing a drastic amount of water, to the point our client was worried they would be left with a muddy hole in the ground.

After conducting a site visit with the client, it was clear that our goal was to rebuild the pond using modern liners to decrease any chance of future leaks. Our client also saw this as an excellent opportunity to enhance the existing pond by expanding the size and including a natural cascade!

Getting Started

Drying Out Slapton Pond

The project unfolded in a series of exciting steps. First up, we tackled the existing pond, which had seen better days. We rolled up our sleeves and got to work excavating the pond, getting rid of all the accumulated silt and giving ourselves a clean slate to work with. With a fresh canvas, our team of skilled operatives went to town shaping the pond. We expanded its size and carefully sculpted the pond’s edges to blend seamlessly with the garden’s natural beauty. But the real showstopper? That had to be the natural cascade we added. Made from rock we sourced locally, it not only looked fantastic but also brought the soothing sound of flowing water to the garden.

To make sure we wouldn’t have any more water troubles, we lined the pond with a modern, bentonite liner. Once everything was set, we filled the pond back up, creating a thriving aquatic home. And to put the cherry on top, we landscaped the whole area complete with locally sourced turf. What started as a struggling pond on the brink of disaster turned into a stunning garden oasis!
