At the start of November 2018, Landmarc travelled to Cheltenham to conduct a site visit for a Wildlife Pond. This client’s site was a huge greenfield garden surrounding their property. Upon arrival, they made it clear to us that they are lovers of the outdoors. They really wanted to create a wildlife haven that would centre around a natural lake. As plans developed, Marcus (Landmarc’s owner) really saw the potential scope of this project. He couldn’t wait to get the project underway. He knew that Landmarc had all the skills necessary to complete the wide variety of tasks that our client needed. So, after finalising the designs and details, we started to mobilise our plant & machinery to the site in August 2019. Work began soon after.
The first stage of the project then began. This is often the scariest stage for many of our clients as they see their landscape being dismantled before their very eyes! Fear not, this is all part of the plan. Our two Volvo EC140s, along with dumpers and rollers, made light work of excavating the areas for the natural lake. Once the excavation work was completed, it was important to create the shape of the banks for the lake. Creating a beautiful, flowing lake shape is vitally important to ensuring a picturesque landscape. Definitely, not to be overlooked! After this was completed, Bentotex clay liners were laid using a specialist attachment on the excavator tilt rotator. Once this was laid, it was covered over with soil to create a water-tight lake.
Another small pool as also created close to the house, this would feature a water cascade into the main lake. This took a lot of time and precision as hand-picked feature rock was used to create a natural-looking cascade. Thankfully, Marcus has years of experience in not only selecting the right rock for the situation but also a keen eye for detail when designing such features. This first stage was completed in November 2019.
